Brooklyn based choreographer Juri Onuki presents LOTC, the performance remix of Jack Levinson’s Ladies of the Canyon, live at Secret Project Robot on May 25th. Based on the original script by Los Angeles based writer, Jack Levinson, which is part of its own larger series, The Square Circle Story. Onuki takes and highlight the scenes from the story into dance-based performance featuring Rachel Berman, Burr Johnson, and Madison Krekel.
Juri Onuki: born and raised in Ibaraki, Japan, and currently lives in New York City. She has been working with various artists both as a choreographer and performer including Blood Orange, Chairlift, Ramona Lisa, Marina Abramovic, Carolee Schneeman to name the few. Her own dance works have been presented in Brooklyn, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Japan.
is an ongoing experimental fiction series told in screenplay form. Ladies of the Canyon, its first installment, has been presented since 2015 as a series of dinner-parties-turned-cold-readings where each guest pulls a name from a hat and a group of strangers reads the script aloud. These readings have been hosted at Chin’s Push, 99-Cent-Plus Gallery, and the Wassaic Project, among others. Onuki’s LOTC is its first adaptation.
