KEVIN, THE APOCALYPSE, & KEVIN
by Jake Dibeler
Adam Radakovich &
Part soap opera, part tragic farce, and mostly set in a bomb shelter, “Kevin, the Apocalypse, & Kevin” blithely tells the story of Kevin, Kevin, and their daughter, Kevin. They suffer nervous breakdowns, prepare for an impending apocalypse, and discuss important issues such as AIDS, the crippling stresses of reality, and Amy Schumer.
Jake Dibeler’s performances are a self-reflexive regurgitation of pop culture, queer body politics and death fantasies, an uneasy interplay between humor and horror. His works are scenes of self-portraiture enacted by several characters, often employing diaristic spoken word musings, pop songs, prosthetics, props and blood. His work has been shown at MoMA PS1, MoCA Los Angeles, and ICA Philadelphia (and also Europe darling.)
