Territorial Limits is an evening of performances from dynamic composers whose approaches to improvisation highlight a tension between tradition and evolution of form through chance operations, durational performance, and livesampling.
These composers explore timbre, spatialization, and hypnotic states as compositional elements on equal footing with traditional parameters such as harmony and rhythm. Their approaches to composition must define a language–or territory–outside of or as a departure from a tradition and then navigate that territory within each composition. Thus each composer is responsible for the creation of a musical system, possibly with new instrumentation, and communicating that system to the listener during each performance.
