Music Against Mass Incarceration began in 2016 as a response to the far right’s continuing and coordinated efforts to use the prison-industrial complex as a means of suppressing and disenfranchising the most marginalized persons in our already-unjust society.

Transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex people, especially TGNCI people of color and low-income TGNCI people, are disproportionately profiled and targeted by police for arrest. As a result, their communities are overrepresented in a criminal legal system that works to further isolate them. Sylvia Rivera Law Project provides pro-bono legal services and engages in political education and organizing to TGNCI community members, including with SRLP's Prisoner Advisory Committee to combat the isolation of currently incarcerated loved ones in our prison industrial complex.

Representatives from Sylvia Rivera Law Project will be on hand to speak about the important work they are doing to fight for justice for the most marginalized people in New York and the rest of the United States. We will also provide space for additional local organizations who are working to defend the rights of workers, immigrants, and others to speak and share literature.
